On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong first stepped onto the moon during NASA's Apollo 11 mission--and as the 50th anniversary of the event gets closer, the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum has launched a Kickstarter campaign to Reboot the Suit. Seeking to raise $500K by August 19th, the campaign is set to commence the conservation, preservation, and digitization of Armstrong's suit, which has been in storage for years. As part of the campaign, the Smithsonian will 3D/CT scan the entire suit and make these files available to the public--and Kickstarter backers can receive these files before their broader release, among other backing rewards.
