Emerging Objects, co-founded by Ronald Rael and Virginia San Fratello, has a unique vision for the future of architecture, with 3D printing keying in significantly. With a focus on innovative, often recycled or locally sourced, materials, the company continues to roll out innovative techniques and uses. Rael gave a talk -- touching on the question, "What if 3DE printable materials were durable, affordable, inexpensive and ecological?" -- at the recent REAL 2015 conference. Materials under examination include rubber (recycled tires), paper (recycled newsprint), wood (waste from construction industry), salt (abundant, locally available), and cement (a low-water cement polymer), in order to design end products such as 3D printed houses using multiple materials, clay cool bricks, and sand printed earthquake column.
