The Materialise Knee Guide System was designed to let surgeons plan and create patient-specific surgical guides for knee surgery, and the knee surgeries are based on a given patient's unique anatomical and structural requirements. The system is used to make pre-operative plans and fabricate patient-specific guides which are 3D printed for use during surgical procedures, and the first total knee surgery to be planned using the Knee Guide System was completed in September of last year. Dr. Roger Jaeken, the surgeon who performed the first operation, says working from X-ray images rather than CT scan data makes the surgical pre-planning process more efficient. The company has just signed a pact with Consensus Orthopedics for the used of this system. You can read the whole story here: http://3dprint.com/70081/materialise-sign-knee-guide-system
