"New Compact Broadband GSM/UMTS/LTE Antenna Realised by 3D Printing," a recent paper written by Jean-Marie Floch et al, explores the concept of an omni-directional radiation pattern device for mobile communications. In designing the prototype, the researchers came up with a complex shape -- created via 3D printing with ABS finished with a silver printing metallization layer -- that folds two ellipses to create a broadband antenna.
