The Venus de Milo has been created in a 3D model to see if perhaps the theory that she was spinning thread could be true. Author Virginia Postrel hired artist Cosmo Wenman to render the Venus in 3D, and then they worked with Shapeways to produce a 3D printed tabletop replica. While Wenman theorized that perhaps the reason she lost her arms was that the material was too heavy to support them, he was able to create the tools for thread spinning in lightweight wood, and use a gold chain for the thread.
