Isabella Zidek of the University of Applied Sciences in Schwäbisch Gmünd has developed a comprehensive design concept for a 3D skin printer which would be a machine that applies 3D printed patient cells layer after layer directly onto the required site. Because the 3D printed skin would consist of the patient’s own cells, the issue of rejection would be eliminated as well as the chance for additional scarring or additional wounds. Zidek would like to apply this concept to patients suffering from skin disease, as well as to burn victims.
