William Caballero sat listening to a series of phone messages left by his Puerto Rican grandfather, and in hearing them, he realized they were evocative of a “universal quality that anybody could identify with." A filmmaker, Caballero skipped his usual documentary style in favor of featuring his very colorful gramps via a series of 3D printed "Victor" models to tell the tale. The end product is a four-minute-long film, "How You Doin' Boy," created with cheap equipment and 3D printing that provides more than a few chuckles. The grandpas were modeled by artist Chang Kim and then 3D printed from polymer resin which was painted with acrylics. Each one took about four hours to print.
