Organovo announced today at the Experimental Biology conference in Boston that they have created 3D bioprinted fully cellular kidney tissue. This past November, Organovo released its 3D printed human liver tissue for sale for use in pre-clinical drug trials. Once it is ready for market (estimated for the second half of 2016), the new kidney tissue will join the liver tissue under Organovo's exVive3D brand. Organovo's kidney tissue is able to survive for two weeks or more in laboratory conditions, providing improved testing time over currently available models. Both the kidney and liver tissues are created using NovoGen, Organovo's proprietary bioprinting platform. The bioprinted tissues represent important stepping stones toward the eventual creation of 3D printed viable organs for human transplant.
