Huge Russian Battleship 3D Printed on a MakerBot in 506 Pieces

Models that need to be 3D printed in pieces offer a two-fold sense of accomplishment through a good 3D design and through putting the puzzle-like pieces together to get to the final product. An unnamed maker featured by MakerBot has just created a stunningly impressive 1:100 scale 3D printed model of the Russian ship 'Aurora' that is a beautiful replica of a huge, iconic war ship. The Aurora is 416 feet long, and its 3D printed mini-me is 4.33 feet long -- and was printed in 506 pieces. Perhaps the most impressive feature of the model, though, was that with all those hundreds of individual pieces, the total print time was just 34 hours. By printing multiple pieces simultaneously on the build platform, the maker was able to maximize the use of the MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer.
