Surgeons and medical professionals have embraced 3D printing technology as a way to give them crucial information before they enter the operating room. Now a team of doctors at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University are using 3D printed organ models to help them plan for delicate operations and help them explain procedures to family members. They've recently used a 3D printed model of a heart, made by 3D Systems, to plan a successful surgery for 20-month-old Liam Summers.
