Designer Paul Mitchell has been a lifelong fan of Superman, and recently took it upon himself to design a fairly large 3D print of the famed superhero. Using Sculptris and Zbrush to ensure details in the statue's face, Mitchell ultimately printed out the entire sculpture, piece by piece, on his homemade Rostock 3D printer with about 12 hours of print time. The entire 12"-tall figure of Superman was 3D printed, while Mitchell created the cape from a clay form soaked in resin, which provides a complement to the rest of the sculpture and attaches to the base. Mitchell used acrylic paints on the finished pieces to create a bronze-like effect to make the statue appear even more impressive. With the cape and base, the statue stands about 17" tall.
