Researchers at Sheffield University are deeply engaged in using 3D printing technologies to solve delicate medical treatment problems, and their latest work, building tiny guides which are capable of guiding the growth of nerve fibers as they repair themselves, is nothing short of amazing. Nerve damage can leave patients with a complete lack of sensation, and the ability to repair that sort of injury will have wide ranging implications in a variety of treatment options. The nerve guides are built with a photocurable resin, polyethylene glycol diacrylate, which has already been approved for implantation in human beings.
