Global Market for 3D Scanners and Cameras to Explode by 2020

Allied Market Research, a well-known market research firm, says the public and private sector appetite for 3D camera and scanning technology will grow to more than $7 billion by the year 2020. The firm says most of the growth will be driven by an insatiable desire on the part of entertainment and media moguls to bring 3D content from movies to 3D printing apps to the public. According to the report, the Asia-Pacific region will be one of the most lucrative markets for such devices and technologies. You can read the whole story here: http://3dprint.com/42079/3d-camera-and-content/

Below is a graphic of the company's research summary. Do you agree with AR's assessment of the 3D scanner/camera market? What will this expected growth, if accurate, mean for the 3D printing industry in general?

While big industries would still be looking for top of the line equipment, I think that commercial consumer scanner's will boom when smart phones have enough capability to be able to scan thing's good enough. Better to add a scanner to something everyone already has, then try to sell them another piece of equipment (when the tech is good enough)

Yep and that's exactly what intel are doing with their latest generation of tablet chipsets. Adding stereo cameras and 3d scanning ability.
Should hit the market this year.

    It's what I'm waiting for.
