    Stunning 3D Printed Chess Set

Fractal mathematician and artist Johan Andersson has worked for four years creating a truly amazing and one-of-a-kind chess set which is being released piece by piece from Shapeways. The set is meant to represent a seven-part play about humanity, and each 3D printed piece of the set is a unique character with a unique story. Andersson was inspired by fractal artists like Duchamp and DalĂ*, but wanted to make a surreal chess set, incorporating 3D printing, and putting his own signature (literally) on the medium and craft. Check out more about his pieces and progress in the full article: http://3dprint.com/40665/3d-printed-surreal-chess-set/

Below is a photo of the set's Queen piece:

Who else ever said that Dali and Duchamp were "fractal artists"? And if each individual piece is different, how do you manage to play a game of chess with them?

In an unprecedented event, I tend to actually agree with you. Dali was not a fractal artist, nor was Duchamp.

Playing fractal shaped pieces, or any completely odd pieces sort of draw away from the game itself, which really should not focus on the pieces you are playing with, well not proper chess anyway in my humble opinion. Thinking so far ahead the pieces are nothing more than a physical representation for their co-ordinate seems more crucial.
