This year, SME’s HOUSTEX trade show will once again host a wind turbine challenge for area students, asking them to design their own wind turbines, which will be 3D printed before them onsite and then tested to see whose design is capable of producing the most RPMs. The winners will take wind turbine stands worth $600 back to their schools for display. The challenge not only exposes student to a fun, learning experience regarding design and engineering, but puts a tremendous focus on 3D printing and its impact in many fields and industries. The challenge is part of an agenda to begin grooming more and more students to fill the empty slots in careers for machinists, mechanics, engineers, and computer specialists.
