MarsWithoutBorders is bringing the idea of space closer to home, as colonization of the Red Planet becomes more of a realistic possibility. Founded by Dr. Susan Ip Jewell, MWOB is working toward this interplanetary future. Dr. Jewell and MWOB Commander Matteo K. Borri (who founded Robots Everywhere) led a project to test the feasibility of 3D printing surgical tools for telesurgery on Mars. The simulation was run in the Utah desert, testing the possibility of solar-powered 3D printers, printing tools, and training non-medical staff in their use in case of emergency medical situations. Dr. Jewell and Borri took the time to tell 3DPrint.com about their plans and provide a clear look at some of their results from the simulation and intent for the future.
