University of Texas San Antonio Professor Predicts 3D Printed Organs in Next Year

While we often report on stories regarding bioprinting and the hopes for 3D printed organs eventually, one doctor has helped us put more of a timeline on these aspirations. Dr. Teja Guda is part of the University of Texas San Antonio biomedical engineering department, where they are lucky enough to have a $200,000 bioprinter capable of helping to make the type of progress required for moving toward the fabrication of organs for transplants. While Dr. Guda does expect the growth of 3D printed organs to begin happening in the next year, he does not foresee them as being viable for transplants for perhaps the next ten years.
