3D Printing and SlipCasting

Jade Crompton, a ceramic artist in the UK, uses 3D modeling software SolidWorks and 3D printed molds to create her complex, small-production run pieces. Using a process called slipcasting, Crompton takes a material called Parian to fill the molds and the fires the resulting pieces at more than 1200 degrees F to finish them. The geometric forms of Crompton's work would be impossible with traditional methods of throwing ceramics, and the artist says her work is a melding of an old technique with a new technology.
