Dutch Artist & Peers Push Boundaries of 3D Printing

Dutch artist Olivier van Herpt built his own 3D printer several years ago, dissatisfied with the artistic possibilities that conventional 3D printers and materials offered. He used his completed clay printer to print tall, thin vessels with beautiful shapes and textures, and has collaborated with other artists to push the boundaries of what 3D printers are capable of. In his most recent project, he has teamed up with sound artist Ricky van Broekhven to create "Solid Vibration," a series of ceramic vessels etched with sound waves generated by playing tones through a speaker beneath the printer.
