Microsoft's Skynet UI: 3D Scanner on Any Smartphone

Today Microsoft researchers unveiled a project which they have been working on around a technology which they call 3D Reconstruction. They have created a user interface called Skynet UI, which enables the normal camera of a smartphone to 3D scan a person's face:

Skynet is intuitive and will allow accurate 3D scans which can then be send off to a 3D printer if a user chooses. Where Microsoft will go with this technology is yet to be seen, but I'm sure there could be several interesting use cases for it.
