Chronicled & Origin Develop 3D Printed Smart Tags for Shoes

San Francisco-based startup Chronicled and 3D printing company Origin have developed a 3D printed smart-tag that they believe will put a huge dent in the trade of counterfeit shoes. The unique, tamper-proof retail 'smart tag' can guarantee the authenticity of sneakers and other high value consumer goods using the Chronicled app that will authenticate the product. The smart tags are manufactured using an Ember 3D printer from Autodesk, which prints the tag around a tiny, onboard computer that contains a completely encrypted and unforgeable digital authentication, similar to a Bitcoin. Origin believes that this is the first time that 3D printing technology has been used to mass-produce a product like this.
