3D Printed Self Playing Xylophone

When Rebecca Drake enrolled in an intro to engineering class, she was treated to a rare opportunity. Since there were no freshmen enrolled in the class, the professor decided to retool the course a bit and offer a project-based plan of study. Students were divided into teams and assigned the task of creating a self-playing xylophone. Drake’s team quickly saw the potential in their unlimited access to the department’s 3D printers and set to work creating the structure and playing mechanism for their xylophone in SolidWorks.
