How 3D Printing is Affecting Spacecraft Design

Aerospace applications of 3D printing are some of the most exciting aspects of the industry that we read and write about. Some of the most important parts of building a spacecraft, however, are not always the most glamorous. Recently, a study conducted by Croft Additive Manufacturing and ESR Technology found that 3D printing could be effectively used to create "cages" to contain lubricant within the bearing system of a spacecraft. Owing to the conditions of space, a lot of issues have arisen with the bearing lubricant, but the research teams think that the 3D printed cages could solve those problems.
