Bonaire Brings 3D Printed Coral Reefs to the Caribbean

The recently-founded Cousteau Ocean Learning Center is about to bring 3D printed coral reefs to the Caribbean with help from the Harbour Village Beach Club, which is located on the Caribbean island of Bonaire. The idea is to begin 3D printing coral later this year, implanting it in the ocean to attract coral polyps and other species to help rebuild the threatened reefs. While the exact locations for the implantation of the printed reefs hasn't yet been decided, the partners hope that the reefs will help transform the island into a wildlife refuge - not only for the coral and other creatures on the reef, but for the birds and other marine life that subsist on coral species.
