Researchers Embedding Sensors into Casts and Braces to Track Patient's Recovery

Dr. Iain Murray, a senior lecturer at Cutin University in Australia, has built a team which created a series of braces and casts used to treat injuries and chronic disorders like cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and motor neuron disease. Dr. Murray says that, while work like theirs has been done in the past, the use of 3D printing technology makes the devices cheaper and more efficient. According to Dr. Murray, patients using the devices are wearing the embedded sensors printed within the casts and supports all the time, thus providing more data and more detail to doctors at less cost.
