European Space Agency Funds Trinity College's Drive Towards Cold Spray 3D Printing

The European Space Agency has awarded Trinity College's Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering a $757,000 four year award for the development of cold spray technology to be used in additive manufacturing using metals. This technology speeds up helium to twice the speed of sound and injects metal particles, which makes particles bond through speed instead of through heat. The award will be used to design new cold spraying equipment, like a new nozzle, gas systems, process simulations, and materials selection/testing. This is the largest award that Trinity College has ever received from the ESA.
