Urban Hubs And 3D Systems Team for Amazing Recycling Idea

Things like this really make me excited about 3d printing. An organization called Urban Hubs has teamed with 3D systems to create what they hope will be a network of recycling friendly makers, who can change the world.

Urban hubs work by connecting the 3D printing enthusiasts with the locals in a town, and those people who dig through the garbage in order to make a few extra bucks each day. The way it works is quite genius. You can 3D print out a bin which snaps together with other bins and creates a hub, which can than be placed on a telephone pole, or other area, and used as a repository for bottles and cans. Instead of having to dig though the garbage, these people can now just take the items out of the hubs and redeem them for cash. Glad to see you here. I thought this was an incredibly good idea. Hoping to help you guys gain some more traction.

For the itinerant recyclers, it would seem to make things more difficult; they want to get at the cans more easily, pour them from your recycling bin into their shopping carts, and not to have to pick each one out of its little cell. In my neighborhood, they'd steal those nifty plastic things in a heartbeat anyway. Also, it's illegal to affix things to telephone poles and light standards.
