What Questions Should Executives Ask About 3D Printing?

Multinational professional services firm Ernst & Young executive Channing Flynn recently released a paper on the implications of 3D printing and rising interests of global corporation and conglomerates on Harvard Business Review. Flynn believes executives must analyze the opportunities 3D printing provides in optimizing inefficient operations. I am sort of surprised at this article. Most of the big companies that i have worked for have had in house rapid prototyping for years. Moen has had an SLA machine and scanner in house for almost 2 decades as well as 3D scanning. Invacare (medical company), gojo use in house FDM machine. I could rip through a ton of companies that do this today. I have one on my desk at work and we do light production work with them.

What am i missing here?
