GE Opens Multi-Modal Facilities in Inda, Expects Lots of 3D Printing to Commence

GE has just opened the first of what they expect to be many "Multi-Modal" facilities in Chakan, India that they believe will completely revolutionize how their products are manufactured. When GE redesigned the fuel nozzle in their next generation LEAP engine, it became the ideal component to be manufactured using 3D printing technology. The result is a single part that completely replicates all of the twists, turns and interior chambers of the old fuel nozzle made of twenty parts, and is 25% lighter and a five times stronger than its traditionally manufactured predecessor. In order to meet the huge demand for their new engine, GE is using their Chakan facility, which was designed to be capable of manufacturing a wide range of GE products throughout all of the massive companies divisions. It can be used to assemble industrial equipment from oil and gas, aerospace, transportation and power distribution, all in the same facility using the same workers and the same technology.
