Update On Stratasys Vs. Afinia Patent Dispute

There has been a bit of a twist in the Patent dispute between Stratasys and Afinia. Recently a court ruled that one of the 4 patent violation allegations which Stratasys has claimed against Afinia was invalid. This was based on the fact that the patent which they alleged was infringed upon was already granted to Stratasys prior to the patent in question, meaning that the current patent which was supposedly being violated may be invalid. It's an interesting case, one I sort of hope Stratasys lose, no one wants to see a monopoly in this industry. They should concentrate on dominating though cutting edge and unique hardware.

X2 too many patents are going to hold back everything.

Inter partes reviews are trial proceedings conducted at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent & Trademark Office which consider the patentability of one or more claims in a patent. As part of one of those proceedings which pitted Stratasys against competitor Afinia, the PTAB said Afinia “has not demonstrated a reasonable likelihood of prevailing” in regard to their challenged claims against the Stratasys patents.
