Breathe-3DP Functional Filament!

Breathe-3DP, based in Bristol, Virginia, is focused on developing and supplying a suite of performance filaments. We intend to bring the 45 years of experience from our parent company to propel FDM printing past prototyping and into the realm of functional end-use parts. Our parent company, Universal Fibers, extrudes 100 million pounds of various polymers into the automotive, carpet, aerospace and specialty industries.

Our first product launch is PLA++. The first "+" is for superior mechanical properties, PLA++ has significantly improved impact resistance and is considerably less brittle. Some of our customers tell us it exhibits physical attributes akin to ABS. We test all our filament in our in-house print lab consisting of 3 dozen printers, from a range of manufacturers. We also send out ASTM test bars to acquire physical property data of printed parts. We think this gives a better indication of the performance you can expect out of an FDM printed object.

The second "+" is for uniformity, which includes everything from color to physical properties to diameter. All filament is monitored by a tri-axis laser, any filament that falls out of spec is scrapped. We print samples from every lot of filament produced to ensure that lot meets our "++" distinction.
