I'm getting trouble with this model http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:921148 as the supports dont connect to the hand. My printer is Prusa I3 pro b and I'm using repetier host and slic3r

Wow, good luck printing that, it looks really quite tricky!
I think the first thing I would do is a repair of the model, to check it does not have any errors. These can easily trip up the slicer program.
Have a look at in MS 3D builder. This also has a repair algorithm, so it will pick up any problems.
Slice with Cura.
Otherwise I recommend building conical support towers touching the thumb, hand and arm.
