Hey guys. Recently my printer stopped extruding filament and I noticed that the extruder motor was spinning but the gear was still. I put on the spare gear I printed and it was working perfect but after 3 prints the same thing happened :(
I tried tightening the grub screw but it is incredibly loose and just wiggles around, it was like this on the original gear aswell.
Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Am a right to assume you have some sort of wades extruder? Also I assume you have those parts in pla? Your motor may be getting hot enough to distort the plastic. You have a few options there. Convert it to a belt drive using a 16tooth alu pulley and a printed gear for the other end. Should give you a more durable piece that way.
I do have a Wades extruder and I'm pretty sure its printed with ABS (the original parts anyway), I am still using those original parts but I printed to gear in PLA. I don't think heat is an issue because I think the original ABS gear wouldn't of warped if that were.Quote:

I would get a metal pulley for the motor shaft. They are quite inexpensive.
I didn't archive the link to it, but I do remember seeing a pulley designed for flatted extruder motor shafts, but the inner diameter would have to print perfect to work. BTW - you did properly add an M3 nut to the slot for it in the pulley, right? The words "incredibly loose and just wiggles around" makes me wonder this.
EDIT: Well, at least some of the pulley designs accept a nut to hold the grub screw. I'm assuming the one you're using does as well.
