US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel Realizes Importance of 3D Printing

In a speech given over the weekend regarding the new Defense Innovation Initiative, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel made it clear that the US needs to put together a comprehensive plan for budgeting in technological advances so that we don’t fall behind and become vulnerable while other countries are investing as much or more in their military budgets, to include plenty of high-tech investments. 3D printing is a part of the new technology being explored further for use by the military as it allows self-sufficiency is many areas from tools, parts, maintenance, weapons — and even spectacular things like 3D printed food, or even body parts.
