Nanyang Technological University Collaborates with NDCS for 3D Printed Scaffolds

Nanyang Technological University has been collaborating with National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) to create 3D printed dental scaffolds that will encourage bone growth for implants—and help eliminate the need for bone grafting altogether. The scientists have been working on this project for five years, with successful testing performed on seven patients. A new trial is gearing up as they work with 132 patients this time, using the already patented materials. NDCS sees the 3D printed scaffolds being released in about three years. In the meantime, they have also had great success 3D printing models of the skull for corrective jaw surgeries, allowing surgeons to educate patients, train with the models, and even use them as templates during surgery.
