Getting right settings to get ABS to stick

Hi Guys,

Picked up a new (secondhand) Creator Pro.
2015 model with v10 printheads
Sailfish firmware
Simplify3D
FlashForge ABS

Printed a few things with not bad success.

Added a 3mm mirror as bed, but getting problems getting the ABS to stick to it

Wanted to use hairspray but the ABS didnt stick well.

So, how thick or thin should I spray the hairspray onto the mirror?

Are there any ingredients in the hairspray I should be looking for, or avoiding, or should any hairspray do?

Using the default settings in Simplify3D for the printer.

Should I be changing bed temp, extruder temp, etc when having a glass bed??

Same sorts of questions if I use the purple glue stick.

Thickness? temperatures? etc

For ABS

1) HBP must be trammed to 0.1
2) Extruders must be calibrated
3) Heat HBP to 95-100C
4) Use ABS slurry on glass or Kapton tape for best adhesion
5) Extruder temp should about 220-235C (varies from brand to brand and colour to colour)
6) Set a slower first layer. If print feed is, say, 60 then make the first layer speed 25 (for example)
7)MOST IMPORTANT: Chamber must be completely enclosed. Plug/cover ALL holes and openings. Preheat chamber by running HBP at print temp for 20 or so minutes.

hairspray wise - you need one that has vinyl as an ingredient.

I bought some from a discount store - and then promptly changed to pla, so never actually used it :-)

Ideally you want unscented and for a firm hold - firmer the hold the more vinyl it'll have in it :-)

I have wondered if the stretchy vinyl plumbers tape I use would also be a good base for abs. But as I don't use abs any more - never actually got round to trying it.

The rolls are 4 for £1 - so much much cheaper than painters tape or pei or kapton tape.
Got to be worth a try :-)

A Mirror?, I've not seen that used before?

Aquanet superhold works great, too great sometimes--i've had chunks of glass ripped out of my build plate when removing an ABS part.

I now use PET tape on glass with some ABS slurry.

I still say that is some cheap a$$ glass for that to happen.. :cool:

That article won't do much to help. It mentions nothing about enclosing the build area. THAT is the key!

Have been printing ABS with a Dreamer for a while with great results:

Printer: Dreamer, all metal hot end.
Bed: PEI sheet (amazon, cheap) - 3M adhesive tape.
*This is what you want, its incredibly tough, and it is perfect for PLA prints*
Extruder: 245C
Bed Temp: 115-120C, I got the best adhesion at the higher temp.
Use purple glue stick (PVP) .. one pass, make the print area or whole bed purple. I don't clean between prints, just dab a paper towel with water and quickly wipe the area - it turns purple again, then I put another layer on. Works every time, 100% of the time. Use bare PEI bed for PLA prints. Gluestick for everything else.
