With all the options out there, and increasing all the time, it's hard to figure out what's the best way forward in this new and burgeoning world of 3d scanning, modeling, and part production. As someone who has been active in the field for some time, I try to demystify the process of capturing 3D data and converting it to a useful form, modeling 3D parts from scratch, and producing physical parts from the models. We've got 3D scanners for sale, software to deal with the scan data, a wide range of 3D modeling software, CAM software for deriving toolpaths from 3D models, and desktop-sized CNC mills that can carve your parts from solid material. (While we aren't currently reselling any 3D printers, we're actively looking for something that would fit the needs of our customers for highly detailed output, freeform part configuration, trouble-free operation, and inexpensive feedstock.)
