3D Printing Used For More Efficient Aquariums

A biopellet reactor is meant to provide a reaction chamber where a carbon-based food source or biopellet is tumbled to provide an ideal medium for the growth of bacteria to help fine-tune the water quality within an aquarium. Now Ohio-based Marine Biosystems' F5 biopellet reactor uses a patent-pending, finned lifting plate that lifts the entire biopellet mass on a cushion of water. The novel design relies on 3D printing to construct the product. Tom Blaha of Marine Biosystems says the unique design of the dispersion plate - a design which can't be easily injection molded or milled from acrylic – makes all the difference.
