TeVido Raises $30k+ to Patent 3D Printed Nipples for Breast Reconstruction

3D printing technology is well on its way to improving the lives of people worldwide, with 3D bioprinting an impressive part of this effort. Texas-based TeVido BioDevices is working to "build better breasts" to help survivors of breast cancer with reconstruction. Nipple reconstruction is a particularly tricky part of the breast reconstruction process, with long-term results often unpredictable. TeVido is working on a 3D bioprinting method that would use a woman's own cells to reconstruct nipple tissue, lessening risks of rejection and allowing for a truly fit-for-her result. With funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Cancer Institute, TeVido next turned to Indiegogo for crowdfunding for patent protection. At the end of January, TeVido's $30,000 goal was successfully raised, and the company is on its way to improving the quality of life for countless individuals.
