Ultimaker 2 Aluminum Extrusion 3D printer is Unveiled... by a Maker!
Jason, a software architect from Austin, TX, has owned and built several 3D printers already, but recently set himself to a unique project in which he built his 'Ultimaker 2 Aluminum Extrusion' 3D printer. The design is based completely on the Ultimaker 2, designed using Autodesk's Fusion 360, and features aluminum extrusions. Featuring pieces ordered from China, as well as 33 pieces he 3D printed, the 3D printer utilizes the same GCode files that the Ultimaker 2 does, with what Jason says are identical results. He told 3DPrint.com about his building process and experience, and has put the files on Thingiverse to allow other builders to create his 3D printer. Do you really think this better looking than the Ultimaker 2?
Wow Eddie, do really think this is more aesthetically pleasing? In any case I applaud his efforts but the semi-enclosed environment of U2 does server a purpose. I am also curious if he kept the same bowden extruder design, which I find to be the biggest weakness of the U2. If I still had mine, I would replace it with the BondTech extruder. https://youtu.be/JuenK5ohlDE
