Liquid Metal 3D Printer On It's Way By i-Scientifica

South Africa-based i-Scientifica is looking to change the shape of the metal 3D printing space, and has developed a functional proof-of-concept prototype 3D printer that can directly print with various metals from CAD data. Unlike other metal printers, which use laser sintering technologies, i-Scientifica's 3D metal printer uses a jetting device to deposit and cure/fuse metal inks layer by layer, at nano- to micro-meter layer thicknesses. With three different build area options and metal inks ranging from gold (yellow, white, and rose) to aluminum to platinum to titanium, among others, the machines will start in the $40K range, well below the $1 million price tag typically associated with metal 3D printers.
