Caiman Lizard Has Many Designers Working on 3D Printed Leg for Him

Hiss Majesty, a semi-aquatic caiman lizard at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, lost his right rear leg to a tumor last year. Although he certainly seems like a happy enough fellow, the team of designers, vets, and animal specialists have been working with his foot to see if it would be possible to help him regain mobility and comfort all at the same time through a 3D printed prosthetic. So far, the team has been experimenting with molds and 3D printing and they’ve come up with ten different iterations. Their favorite is a ‘stubby toed model’ with a sock-like leg apparatus.
