Volvo Trucks Relying on Stratasys to Cut Production Times by 94%

Clamps, jigs, part supports, and ergonomically-designed tool holders are key elements in engine manufacturing processes and plant operations, and now Volvo Trucks is using such tools developed with thermoplastics and 3D printing to save money and time. Building such tools and fixtures saves material, money and design time using the Stratasys Fortus 3D Production System and thermoplastic ABSplus material rather than the metals which were traditionally used to create those fixtures. The company cut production time and costs significantly -- from about 36 days to 2 days for production, and from about $113 per 0.06 cubic inches to about $1.13 per 0.06 cubic inches versus for metal parts.
